Call for papers: Journal of Sidequests

2026-10-28

Have you spent far too long investigating a question that has nothing to do with your dissertation, grant, or day job? We would like to read what you found.

Journal of Sidequests is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal for research pursued out of curiosity. We welcome experiments, measurements, simulations, and engineering investigations whose questions might be unusual, amusing, or difficult to explain to your supervisor.

The question can be silly, but the evidence still has to hold up. Manuscripts should describe reproducible methods, report uncertainty and limitations, and support their conclusions with appropriate analysis. Negative and inconclusive results are welcome when the investigation is well designed and clearly reported.

Submissions are open on a rolling basis. Authors should include a data availability statement and disclose funding, conflicts of interest, and any applicable ethical approvals. Word and LaTeX manuscript templates are available in the author guidelines.

Submission and peer review are free. The publication fee is $50 USD after acceptance, and authors may request a waiver. Payment requests are currently paused while payment processing is being activated.

Authors retain copyright, and published articles use the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license (CC BY 4.0).

We also welcome volunteer reviewers. If you would like to help, email [email protected] with your research interests and areas of expertise.
